The Answered Prayer

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. “There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. Behold I make all things new.” Revelation 21: 4, 5

The Answered Prayer

It is about ten in the evening on Wednesday and I have just received the call that Carole’s Aunt Mildred has passed from her home here to the one made more glorious for her called heaven.  I told you a week of so ago that she asked for me to ask Jesus to come and get her; with tears in her eyes she wept those words slowly but clearly in my ear. Mildred had been a successful business woman, independent, healthy, and strong until just a few months ago.  For more than 94 years she had made her own decisions, taking care of herself and until a year or so ago drove to the places in Memphis where she wished, but life changed and suddenly she faced that fear that troubles most of us of my generation; she outlived her health. Living longer than you health, waking up one day in a strange place, seeing strange faces, hearing voices and words that do not fit into your life has to be so very troubling; so two weeks ago she asked me to ask her loving Lord to come and get her. That is not an easy prayer to pray, it is like giving up hope, trying to make a decision that only God has the right to make but I am certain that Jesus had already hear her and that He knew that she was weary with this time and wanted to once again see her husband and son. He also knew that she was fully aware of His time and His will and that all would be done as He desired. Tonight heaven is a bit sweeter, Mildred is at perfect peace and the tears of the family will wash themselves away in time and we will laugh and enjoy the memories of other days and better ways.
